Spring time walkabout

Well, it has begun. The weather has finally broken. Spring is in the air and the time for adventure is here. This blog will cover the many, many, many miles our observant photographer has covered over the last few days.

Day 1...The Adventure Begins

Though the photos seem to tell a different story, this was quite a short day for the wandering photographer at just about 3 1/2 hours. Just a few hours and a few miles, with so much accomplished.

Birds are quite often on his subject list. And he has become absolutely phenomenal at catching them midflight or in glorious grandeur. A robin, some osprey, a turkey vulture, cardinal, and even a bird of the mechanical nature made its way into the shot.

He really is quite the animal whisperer. Squirrels are something he has come quite familiar with. And, there is even a sleepy racoon popping up to say hello!

Day 2...A Much, Much Longer Journey

He laughs, but I truly think he had a wave of insanity. When he said he was going to make another adventure out, he failed to mention he would be damn near hiking. Aparrantly wandering through tbe woods, around all sides of the river, and obliterating all signs of the beaten path. I was even more suprised when 13 miles later, he suprised me at work so we could go home together. I do not know how he does it.

Ad, ladies and gentlemen, let there be flight...A day of even more birds.

Bue Herons, black caped chickadees, more osprey, and some random butterfly, all just as beautiful as anything he has found prior.

And here is a neat shot of a cluster of Blue Heron nests...

Deer are so abundant in this area. They just run about, minding their own business. Not as cartoon like and Bambi-esque as some of the pictures he took last year, but still quite pretty.

Last year, we recued a little turtle we found on one of our walks. A little painter we named Joker. It opened up a newfound love of turtles for me. And I just love when we find these groups of turtles on the river, sunning themselves in a certain synchronicity.

Day 3...Quick and Easy...

After the all day excursion of the day before, our own birds were none too happy that they had to be locked away. He had no intention of doing that again. Between that and the threat of rain, he had to make a quick outing of the day.

Male and female mallards at play. It is cute how they almost seem to ham it up for the camera.

And the star of today's show...a darling Pileated Woodpecker. Meet Woody, or at least that is who it looks like.

Another ong, beautiful, exhausting excursion is a wrap. There are many more to come, for sure. But, for now, it is time to fly...
